What drives the label you see
When you search a phone number in Getcaller, you may notice a label attached to it — Spam, Telemarketer, Business, or no label at all. These labels reflect aggregated community data and internal processing. No label is generated from a single data point alone, and no label is guaranteed to be current or definitively accurate.
Community reports as the primary input
The primary input is community reporting. When other Getcaller users mark a number as spam, telemarketer, or another category, that information contributes to the label over time. A number reported consistently by many users is more likely to receive a visible label than one reported rarely or not at all.
Other factors that may influence how a number is classified include:
- How frequently the number appears in searches across the user base
- Whether the number is associated with high-volume outbound calling patterns
- The type of number (mobile, landline, or VoIP) where that information is available
- Any publicly available directory or business registration data
Labels can change over time
Classification is not permanent. As new reports are submitted or as existing reports age, the label attached to a number can shift. A number that previously showed as Spam may no longer display that label if its reporting pattern changes, or if the number changes hands and calling behaviour shifts accordingly.
Numbers without labels
Not every number has a label. If a number has not been searched or reported by enough users, it may appear in Getcaller with limited or no classification data. The absence of a label does not indicate that the number is safe — it simply means there is no sufficient community data for it at this time.
Using labels as context, not verdicts
A label in Getcaller is a starting point — a reflection of what community members have reported at a given point in time. It is not a definitive identification of who is calling or their intent. Use it alongside other signals when deciding how to respond to an unknown number.
